If you use a laptop, get a good auxiliary monitor and a hardware calibrator. Besides that, the most important thing for editing images is a good monitor. Once you open Lightroom, you're running Adobe.Whether you use a Mac or Windows, Photoshop wants lots of RAM.Still havent made up my mind about this. I also use Qimage for printing, which does not run directly on a Mac.Thanks for the feedback I read it all. It does, however, seem like a pretty strange system.I run Photoshop CC and Lightroom CC on a fast Windows 10 machine with absolutely no problems. If you are driving a higher resolution display, this will cost performance (although it may enhance productivity-I went 5k because the balance works for me). The graphics card also has an impact on performance. So does HD speed-solid state drive combined with uncompressed files gives a big boost. Processor speed matter for image processing. But I don't see a need for this unless you are already a Mac user and did not need the hardware upgrade. As mentioned, lots of RAM is good. For photo processing, it's mostly an advantage.Adobe is also building their product around the Mac as delivered by Apple (there is only one supplier and the options are fairly limited). On the Windows end, just the options from Dell alone are more complex. For general use, you pay for this even if you don't need it. One slow piece of the chain can bog you down and systems are not necessarily optimized for image processing (often they are not). One large Apple advantage is that the engineering decisions are made for a complete package and they tend to favor quality over price. The problem is building it with the right parts. This reveals a lot and is a good "real world" test if image processing is the goal.In theory, a Windows machine can cost less. ![]() ![]()
